In a bid to enhancing efficiency in national policing, Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam has urged the newly commissioned 462 Cadets to be dedicated, effective, and professional in discharging their duties.
Gaidam made the call during the passing out parade ceremony of the 6th Regular Course 6 2018 Cadets (462), reviewed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ably represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, at the Academy Parade Ground, Police College, Wudil, Kano State.
The Minister stated that after completing five years of rigorous academy and professional training from the college, Nigerians expected them to add value to the police ecosystem and be fair and accountable in discharging their duties.
He admonished them to reflect on the journey that has brought them to this point, adding that the training received has prepared them for the challenges ahead.
Gaidam emphasised that it is their character and integrity that will define their careers.
According to the Minister, “It is indeed a privilege to serve Nigeria and work towards the noble goal of ensuring the safety and security of our citizens. Undoubtedly, there is still much work to be done. You should be fully aware of the challenges that lie ahead, and acknowledge the complexities associated with policing. However, you should be resolute in your commitment to bring about lasting change”.
“Community engagement and trust building should be your focus. You must be actively involved in the communities you serve, fostering a sense of cooperation and partnership. By enhancing coordination between Federal, State, and Local law enforcement, we can create a unified front against crime and ensure a more effective response”.
Gaidam averred the Ministry of Police Affairs is currently spearheading policy reforms and administrative initiatives, aimed at bolstering the operational efficiency of the NPF and improving welfare and morale.
The ongoing initiatives include engaging multiple stakeholders through town hall meetings and reinforcing the Police Community Relations Committee to bolster efforts in enhancing community safety. He added.
He commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and his management team as well as the Commandant for their unwavering dedication and commitment to shaping the future leaders of our Police Force.
The Minister noted their commitment to duties and charged them to continue building community partnerships, deepen citizens’ participation in policing arrangements, and position the Nigeria police to play a critical role in achieving the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Asiwaju Tinubu led administration.
