Yobe Assembly Commences Assessment of Commissioner Nominees

  • Exco of CSOs inaugurated

 Yobe State House of Assembly has commenced the screening of the commissioner sent to it by the Governor, Mai-Mala Buni.

The nominees are expected to have little or no objections to their nomination as the House have already adopted “the take a bow and leave principle.”

It was gathered that the House adopted the take a bow and leave method because many of the lawmakers believe the governor and his commissioners are all party men.

The House has only a solitary member from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However the screening, which commenced on Wednesday, is expected to be in batches.

The screening first five nominees were screened on Wednesday.

The exercise is expected to end on Wednesday 13th November 13th 2019.
Meanwhile, the network of civil society organisations in Yobe State has inaugurated a 16-man executive council membership to man its affairs for the next two years.

Speaking shortly after the inauguration, the newly elected Executive Director of the Network, Comrade Baba Shehu thanked Civil Society Organisations in the state for giving him the mandate.

He assured that the network will pursue for good governance and citizens participation in the government for overall development across the state.

Earlier the Chairman Caretaker Committee Muhammad Idriss Bomoi congratulated the new executive Council members of the Network urging them to work towards justifying the confidence reposed in them.

Idriss Bomoi who noted that the network of civil society organizations is a like an umbrella of all CSOs and CBOs across the state applauded Yobe state Government for its open door policy and Other supporting partners like the Partnership, Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) without which support, this event could not come to reality.

Chairing the event, the Speaker Yobe state House of Assembly Alhaji Ahmed Lawan Mirwa, represented by the member Nguru central constituency Alhaji Lawan Sani Inusa Nguru said the legislature’s door is always open for useful advice by the Network and other partners to move the state forward.

The event which was attended by representatives of CSOs from neighbouring states in the north, featured paper presentation on the role of CSOs in post conflict reconstruction: Unveiling Governor Buni’s Agenda in North East Development Commission Yobe State by Dr. Ali Abbas.
Other highlights of the event were good will messages and presentation of certificates to outgoing Exco.
