Suspects connected with the murder who were paraded at Zone 2, before journalists on Tuesday, January 21,2020, by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Ahmed Iliyasu, included a 42-year-old Doctor Bob Ibeaji, alleged kingpin and initiator of the crime.

Police investigation has revealed that Chief Odunukwe who was reported missing since December 1, 2019,was last seen after he attended a business meeting at Atican Resort, Ajah, Lagos.
He was said to have been lured into the Resort and murdered by the suspects, who deceived him with a false business proposal, that they wanted to buy one of his landed property at Katampe area of Abuja, valued at N900 million, which he had advertised for sale.
The generator business mogul was said to have been brutally murdered in cold blood and his body dismembered by the suspects, packed into a sack and dumped at Ogunbo forest , Ajah, Lagos.
Primary suspect in the murder, Ibeaji, said he initiated a false business proposal through a phone call, convincing him that they wanted to buy one of his landed property valued at N900 million.
According to him, they had their first meeting at Chief Odunukwe’s Abuja office, after which they had rescheduled the final meeting in Lagos. Following their agreement, the deceased billionaire had left his home for the agreed meeting at Atican Resort, with an already prepared purchase agreement document by his lawyer but never came back.
However, a formal petition to the police by the deceased family led to the arrest of one of the crime suspects, who had in his possession, the original documents of the land in question.
AIG said under police interrogation, the suspect disclosed to operatives that he had already paid the deceased for the land, but when asked to produce the details of bank payment, he could not.
It was then that he was said to have confessed to the murder, led Operatives to the arrest of his accomplices and the recovery of the dismembered body of the billionaire on the January 16th, 2020.
AIG Ahmed Iliyasu, who paraded the suspects at his command headquarters revealed that the kingpin, Ibeaji, had two similar incidents already established against him.
He mentioned the case of the killing of Bayelsa state civil commissioner, Depologa, dumped along Abuja Expressway and the attempted forceful dispossession of Mr Jude Efulue property, which led to Ibeaji’s remand at Kuje Prison.
The kingpin confessed that greed and excessive love for wealth led him to the crime, just as he confirmed that he met Israel during his incarceration at Kuje Prison and that he used the butt of an axe to hit the deceased, gave him two shots of a lethal injection before they dismembered his body and package it into a sack locally called ‘ Ghana must Go’ and dumped him in the forest with the help of Igwe, a staff of the Resort. While Cletus said he was lured into the crime with a promise of N2 million loan, Israel, an Uber driver, who had in his custody the deceased Billionaire’s car, denied participating in the crime, claiming that Igwe in his usual manner brought the car, he was told belongs to his boss for safe-keeping, until his boss returns from his trip.
AIG lliaysu said the suspects would face the full weight of the law.
