Chief Okorie Onu, a relative of the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, at the weekend led other members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi state.
Also, Chief Austin Chukwudi, a brother to the former Minister of Health and PDP Governorship Aspirant in 2015 who lost to Umahi in the primaries, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, and a governorship aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Dr. Austin Nweze were among the chieftains that defected to the PDP.
They announced their defection at Ohaozara LGA during a grand finale of campaign rallies organised by divine mandate Organization held in the 13 LGAs in the state.
Onu, the Minister of Science and Technology hails from the same Uburu village with Governor David Umahi who is seeking for a second term in office.
Chief Okorie Onu explained that they had to join Umahi, their immediate kinsman contesting for the governorship to ensure that he continues the development of the state, their own community, more so for the fact that he has gained the support of the other two political blocs in the state.
He said Umahi couldn’t stay in office as governor for more than four years unlike the APC governorship candidate, Senator Sonni Ogbuorji who would like to seek for another tenure if elected.
He added that Ogbuorji’s ambition was capable of truncating the existing political arrangement of power rotation among the power blocs in the state.
Governor Umahi who was happy over the mammoth crowd that graced the occasion, urged the people of the state to turn out enmasse to cast their votes and protect it from manipulation.
Umahi cautioned them to be mindful of the antics of their opponents to provoke them to violent reactions.
