The Ogun State House of Assembly (OGHA) Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has commended the management of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs (LG&CA), for proper monitoring of activities of the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State.
The Committee Chairman, Hon. Akeem Balogun stated this in Abeokuta, during the 2019 Budget Performance assessment to the ministry, to ascertain the level budgetary implementation between January and June, 2019.
Balogun urged the management to ensure that Local Governments’ staffers were efficient in the discharge of their duties to boost the Internally Generated Revenue, as well as tap into areas not presently covered by the State Government, applauding the agency for proper management of traditional institutions in the State.
Earlier in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Kunle Osota stated the Ministry had made it mandatory for all LGAs and LCDAs’ officials to always forward their comprehensive progress reports, which the ministry had been receiving on regular basis, adding that the reports reflected the level of revenue generation drive of the LGAs.
“The Ministry often engages the LGAs in meetings and advice the personnel on the need to improve on their revenue generation, particularly the ones found with sharp drop”, Osota said.
The Permanent Secretary called for proper evaluations of houses across the State, noting that such tenement rates would be a huge source of revenue, if properly harnessed by the LGAs.
He added that the Ministry had sustained its agenda of promoting peace among the traditional institutions by ensuring transparency and accountability, so that the LGAs and LCDAs could run seamlessly.
