Obiano Budgets N5b for Youth Empowerment in Anambra


*Sets up Creative Economy Council *Targets to empower 10,000 youth*

The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has mulled the state government’s reasonable increment of its budget for the youth’s entrepreneurship development and empowerment from N100 million  to a whopping N5billion.

The governor made this known during the 2018 International Youths Day Celebration held in Dr Alex Ekwueme square, Awka.

The celebration themed “Safe Spaces for Youths”, was organized by the State Ministry of Youths Empowerment and Creative Economy as a special ceremony in recognition and appreciating of the youths as the bedrock, hope and future of our society, the governor stated.

The well-attended event was attended by various youth groups in the state, including the national youth council, the Ohaneze ndigbo youth wing, Communities based youth organizations, NYSC members serving in state etc.

In his address, the Gov Willie Obiano said the increase of the budget was for the State to train and empower no fewer than 10,000 youths with seed money across various vocations.

He explained that to achieve this, his administration has created the Creative Economy Council to provide the platform for youths in the state to take advantage of 21st  century wealth creation opportunities to develop their potentials.

He disclosed that as fallout from his recent Austrian economic tour, the administration was already discussing with an Austrian institute for scholarship to some Anambra youths for training in new areas and opportunities, assuring he was more than focused on taking them to new heights.

The Commissioner for Youths Empowerment and Creative Economy, Mr Bonaventure Enemali described youths as playing very critical role in the development of any society and as such, need safe spaces for their creativity and ingenuity to find expression, hence the theme of the celebration.

He said in keeping with its vision to groom youths that are productive, the State Government has created skill acquisition centers in its 21 Local Government Areas and was partnering the private sector to fully harness the talents, ability and creativity.

The State Chairman of the National Youths Council of Nigeria, Comrade Samuel Egwuatu said that given the strides of Gov Obiano on youth’s development, Anambra Youths have the responsibility to key into the initiatives to achieve self-actualisation.
