Insecurity: Ogun So-Safe Corps Trains over 1,000 Officers

Officers and men whose responsibilities are to ensure adequate security of lives and property of Nigerians must be exposed to new trends in security matters.

This is why the authorities of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps Agency (So-Safe Corps) will spare no efforts in training its personnel so as to prepare them adequately with respect to the challenges of providing security to the entire state.

The So-Safe Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo, made this declaration in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the State at the closing ceremony of a training programme for over 1,000 men and officers of the corps, during which they were exposed to comprehensive training on intelligence and information gathering to curb kidnapping, rape and herdsmen attacks in the communities and its environs.

Ganzallo expressed optimism that the training would improve the intellects of officers on current happenings especially on issues of insecurity as it afforded them an opportunity to benefit from the verse knowledge of seasoned resource persons drawn from the Nigeria Police and other established security agents.

He pointed out that with the support of the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration, similar trainings had been held for officers in Ijebu, Egba, Ota and Yewa zones, urging the participants to deploy knowledge acquired to ensure better and quality security service delivery across the nooks and crannies of the State.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, stated that contrary to the belief of some, that security matters should not be left to the Police, Department of State Security, Nigerian Customs and Nigerian Immigration alone, as it remained the responsibilities of all and sundry.

Represented by the Divisional Police Officer, (DPO), Owode-Egba, Akinfolahan Oluseye, Wakama urged residents not to relent in giving vital and relevant information to the law enforcement agents, so as to ensure peace, comfort and security of the Nigerian nation at all times.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Kunle Osota, represented by the Director of Local Government Affairs, Mrs. Olusola Osasona assured of government’s readiness to continue giving adequate and necessary support to security agencies in the State and enjoined the participants to remain dedicated to their jobs in reciprocation of government’s gesture.

Among the trained security officers, Mr. Yusuf Samuel from Ado-Odo/Ota and Mr. Blessing Uwandu, from Idiroko maintained that the training had exposed them to new ideas that would enhance their productivity, promising not to renege on their duties in combating crimes in the society.

They were trained on ‘Intelligence, Information Gathering as a Pivot for Secured Community”; “Techniques in Dealing with Kidnapping”; “Ritual killings and Cultism, the Role of the Security Operatives”; “Investigation: System and Techniques,” and the Role of Security Operatives and Stakeholders in Community Safety.
