The Anambra State Police command has called on residents of Obosi community in Idemili North council, and environs to volunteer information that would help apprehend the gunmen who Saturday night killed a man and his wife in their Umuota village home in the community.
According to eyewitness account, the assassination of the couple whose names were given as Mr and Mrs Charles Ifekandu suspected that some people believed to have land issue with the man contracted their killers.
The witness bemoaned that the assailants had operated with so much air and gusto without any intervention from either the police or the local vigilance group just a few metres to the palace of the traditional ruler, Eze Obosi.
That the couple, just like other villagers had retired to bed, immediately after their dinner, went to bed without premonition of what awaited them. Then later that night they started hearing some gunshots in the area.
Curiously it was discovered that only the Ifekandus were singled out for the midnight attack and that nothing was removed from their apartment.
Family source further revealed that the deceased had had an aged long dispute over land with some relations.
He said, “I’m aware that there have been aged long differences in the family of the deceased and one is left to suspect that what happened may not be unconnected with the crisis.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed confirmed the story when contacted but assured that investigations were already ongoing to unravel the killers of the couple.
Obosi has been a hot bed of social crisis and tension for years now.
