BY AYODELE ABERE in Ado Ekiti•
Governor Kayode Fayemi Ekiti State has said that the general elections will be calm and peaceful in the State.
The Governor stated this when received the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Training) Yakubu Jibril, in his office in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, just as his wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi urged market women in the state to support and vote President Mohammadu Buhari and all candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for State and National Assembly seats in the forth coming elections.
Fayemi who assured that his party, the All Progressives Congress, would play by the rules and “not do anything to the disadvantage of other parties”, commended the newly posted Commissioner of Police, Asuquo Amba for demonstrating “capacity and competence” in managing the State’s security architecture.
The Governor said Amba has been able to curb some of the security challenges his administration met; adding that, “Ekiti people can now go about their lawful businesses without fear”.
In his remarks, DIG Yakubu Jibril said his visit to Ekiti was to check the level of preparedness of police personnel for the forthcoming election.
Yakubu who expressed satisfaction at the level of preparation assured that nobody will be humiliated or harassed as the police will ensure a level playing field for all political parties.
He urged the electorate to come out en masse and perform their civic duty devoid of chaos.
On the DIG’s Entourage were the Commissioner of Police (Ekiti) Asuquo Amba, DCP Abiodun Alabi and DCP Rhoda Olofu.
Erelu Fayemi who has continued to canvass vote for the APC, addressed market women at the main market in Ido-Ekiti in, Ido-Osi, Local Government Area, reiterating the need to re-elect President Buhari as it would enhance greater development for the state.
Erelu Fayemi who was accompanied by the party’s Senatorial Candidate for Ekiti-North, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, and Ibrahim Olarenwaju, who is vying for the House of Representatives, among others, assured the women that all the promises made would be fulfilled if President Buhari is re-elected and all the state and National Assembly seats are filled with APC members.
“The present administration of Dr Kayode Fayemi has established a good relationship with the present federal government and we have started seeing the gains such as regular payments of salaries and pensions. Salaries are paid monthly as at when due compared to when workers were owed for many months,” she said.
Aside wooing the women, she also took time off to sensitize the elderly citizens on how to guide against their votes being voided.
“When you get to the polling booths, don’t look for Buhari’s picture or name on the ballot. Look for the Symbol of our party, which is broom and print with your forefinger in front to save Nigeria and Ekiti in particular from ruin” she advised.
Bemoaning the high incidences of void votes in Ekiti, the first lady urged people of ido/Osi to embrace the ongoing voters’ education by APC to be properly guided on how to vote right.
