Ekiti People Ready to Vote on July 14, Launches Application

Ekiti people have expressed the ready to go to the polls on Saturday 14th July 2018, to elect someone who will pilot the affairs of the state for the next four years at the expiration of this present administration.

This view was expressed in Ado Ekiti during the launch of unique software, which will improve the transparency, and proper monitoring of the election results

The E-COMPARE software, which was formally launched over the weekend at Pastoral centre, along Ado/Ikere Express Way, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State has two applications, which are; mobile and Web. The event had in attendance almost every stakeholder in politics.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti, Barrister Gboyega Oguntuase said PDP would resist any form of Federal Might from the APC ruling Party.

Oguntuase stated that members of the APC ruling Party and its Governorship Candidate have said Ekiti would witness Federal Might in the election.

He said the PDP and Ekiti People in general would not condone any violence during the election. He urged the security agents ‘‘to allay the fear of Ekiti on Federal Might’’ as equally condemned ’’ killings and undue arrest of public officers in the state.

He said, “some teachers were arrested by the DSS in the state likewise, a Council chairman in Oye Local Government. This is unacceptable’’.

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Police, Bello Ahmed who was ably represented at the Programme by Ado Ekiti Area Commander-Mrs Julie Kemi Ajao promised adequate Security before, during and after the election.

‘’At pre election period now, I G has deployed 10,000 police to Ekiti for adequate security, we are hundred percent ready.

‘’I want to appeal to the people of Ekiti to eschew violence for peaceful conduct of the election.’’

The Programme organised by a Non Governmental Organisation- Election Monitor witnessed the launching of a mobile and web applications auto collation system for political parties.

Election Monitor is an election observer Group accredited by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to observe the 2018 Ekiti State Governorship Election.

The National Coordinator of the Observer Group- Mr Abiodun Ajijola said E- COMPARE innovative is an application developed to ensure quick and effective internal collation of election results by political parties in order for the parties to be able to compare their own collation with that of the electoral management body.

‘‘Where there are discrepancies, the parties through their representatives could make the observation to the collation officials to ensure optimum accuracy of the collation process’’

Ajijola noted that ‘’the ICT tool would strengthen the political party’s abilities to monitor the election processes more effectively thereby creating acceptability of the released result.

E-COMPARE software is a laudable initiative, which it is expected that government at all levels and every responsible citizen of Nigeria will embrace and take advantage of it for credibility and transparency purposes.

As the adage says, ‘He who does not look ahead always remains behind ‘ Hence, the need to key into this, which is a complete new innovation, which was made possible by, advanced technology.

The representatives of the Political parties present and other participants were given practical training on how to use the application.

The Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) – Mr Ilesanmi Omolayo urged the people of Ekiti to co –operate with the security agents for a peaceful election.
