Ekiti: IPAC Sympathises with Victims of Iworoko Accident

The State Chairman of the Inter – Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Ekiti State, Mr. Ilesanmi Omolayo in Ado Ekiti has sympathised with the families of the victims who died in a ghastly motor accident involving a trailer lorry conveying bags of rice on the Iworoko – Ado Ekiti road on Saturday night.

The IPAC State Chairman, who was very sad and full of emotions over the sudden death of over 20 people, blamed many motorists who are always in the habit of failing to put their vehicles in a good order before embarking on a journey.

Omolayo who message was contained in a press release issued on Sunday morning and signed by his Media Assistant, Mr. Emmanuel Adeniran, advised motorists to always ensure that they put their vehicles in good condition before setting out on any journey.

He blamed the driver of the truck that caused the fatal accident for failing to check the condition of the vehicle and for driving recklessly which led to the loss of over 20 lives at a spot.

He equally used the opportunity to condemn the non-challant attitude of the officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Ekiti State Command for not responding on time, which could have probably prevented the death of many lives that were lost.

Omolayo therefore called on the Federal Road Safety Commission officials in the State to brace up, be more diligent and alert to their responsibilities as the job demands, ensuring an accident free travelling by the road users and saving of lives on all the Nigerian roads and most especially in Ekiti State.

He called on the Federal Road Safety officials to begin a twenty-four hours (24hours) patrol on all the roads of Ekiti State to ensure lives and properties of Ekiti citizens are well protected and safe.

Omolayo therefore advised the families of the accident victims to take solace in God. He prayed for them that God Almighty himself would fill the vacuum left by their loved ones”.

He also called on the State Government to declare state of emergency on the Iworoko – Ado Ekiti road as a matter of urgency.

He urged and advised Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Governor of State to rise to the occasion and fix all the bad portions of the Ado – Iworoko Ekiti road as soon as possible and in earnest to avert further loss of lives and properties on the road.

Omolayo advised Kayode Fayemi, the Governor of the state to put a ban on all rickety and substandard vehicles plying the Ekiti roads henceforth and use the culprits found as an example and a way of generating more funds into the state”.

He also called on the members of the NURTW, RTEAN, Okada Riders etc and their leaders in the State to call themselves into order and have attitudinal change and actions while driving on the road.

He also called on the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) in the state to intensify their efforts at reducing the numbers of vehicles that are not road worthy on our roads by getting them off the roads”, he declared.
