Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Bisi Egbeyemi has said the victory achieved by President Muhammadu Buhari at the polls on Saturday reflected the electoral wish of Nigerians.
Describing Buhari’s triumph at the February 23 presidential election as remarkable, historic and unprecedented, Egbeyemi insisted that the election was free, fair, transparent and credible.
Egbeyemi said the voting pattern at the presidential contest showed that Buhari and his main challenger, Atiku Abubakar, garnered votes in all parts of the country, which couldn’t have been possible if the election was manipulated as alleged by the opposition.
In a statement on Thursday by his Special Assistant on Media, Odunayo Ogunmola, the Deputy Governor said the people of Ekiti State voted overwhelmingly for the re-election of the President because of their belief that he is the right man for the job.
Egbeyemi urged Buhari to consider the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti at the polls to assist the state to develop economically and socially to the benefit of its people who voted for his re-election.
The deputy governor urged Buhari to ensure that the connection of Ekiti by rail and airport project in the state capital become a reality during his second term to attract more local and foreign investment.
He added that Buhari’s latest electoral victory would afford him the opportunity to continue his economic recovery agenda and the fight against corruption.
Egbeyemi said: “I congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari for this remarkable, historic and unprecedented victory at the election held on Saturday which has given him another term of four years to serve Nigeria.
“The voting pattern showed that the election was free, fair, transparent, credible and devoid of rigging. The election reflected the electoral wish of the Nigerian people who found Buhari worthy of another mandate.
“To show that the election was devoid of any form of malpractices, Buhari won in his strongholds and Atiku equally won in areas where he is popular. He should consider our (Ekiti) performance; we really performed in
Ekiti State because we delivered all the three senatorial seats and all the six House of Representatives seats.
“And besides this, we ensured that Buhari had a landslide victory in Ekiti State and this gives us the right to make demands from the Federal Government to make the lives of our people better. Ekiti is yet to have what other states are having, we thank God the railway project is coming and we also need an airport and industries in our state.
“There was no state in the Southwest that performed better than Ekiti at the last election in ensuring that we won all the available seats so whatever that belongs to us in Ekiti should be given to us. When Ekiti State was created in 1996, the Federal Government had not given us our take-off grant till today and there are other things that the Federal Government should give us.
“Presently, Ekiti lacks big industries and other infrastructures but by God’s grace during these four years, we will fight to get them for our state to move forward and for our children to get jobs.”
