In another development, the Elders Council of the Divine Mandate Organisation has warned the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi state, Senator Sunny Ogbuorji, against stoking violence that could jeopardise the existing peace in the state.

The Elders handed down the warning while reacting to the attempted disruption of PDP Governorship rally in Afikpo South by hoodlums suspected to be thugs working for the APC on Thursday.

The hoodlums allegedly attacked some members of PDP including the former Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mrs. Dorothy Obasi.

Chief Fidelis Nwankwo, who read the text of the briefing, alleged that some opposition elements in APC, led by Senator Ogbuorji, were instigating crises and mayhem, which is threatening the peace and tranquillity of the state.

“Law abiding citizens were molested, beaten and harassed by these street urchins. Wanton destruction was also inflicted on vehicles and property of PDP faithful whose only crime was to express their freedom of association and political affiliation”, the council explained.

According to them, they condemn without reservation the violent approach that has been adopted by the APC in Ebonyi state to what should be a contest of ideas and not of sticks, stones, Cutlasses and guns.

They noted that violent destruction of posters across the state by APC thugs; with particular concentration within the Abakaliki capital territory was a matter of immense concern to the elders of the state.

They however, warned that the provocation should stop forthwith to avoid plunging our society into unnecessary state of anarchy.

The elders who expressed concerns over the rumour that votes running into hundreds of thousands have already been allocated to APC guber candidate in Ebonyi state and the speculation that results of the forthcoming elections would be written either prior or during the elections thereby disenfranchising the voters of Ebonyi state, warned INEC and security agencies that the preparation of such electoral fraud will be met with total resistance in Ebonyi State.
