Commercial banks and their numerous customers may now heave a sigh of relief, following the arrest of an alleged notorious member of Bank ATM Card Robbery Syndicate operating in Lagos.
A credible source at the Inspector General of Police, Response Team, IRT, in Lagos, revealed that the Syndicate specialised in dispossessing unwary citizens of their ATM cards, which are cloned and deployed into stealing their victims’ monies from their bank Accounts.
The 33-year-old suspect, Olawale Aderibigbe, who was apprehended on February 18, 2019, in the Surulere area of the state, following intelligence report, was said to have made useful statement regarding the operations of his gang.
Lagos State Police Spokesman, CSP Chike Oti, confirmed that the Command was making concerted efforts to arrest other fleeing member’s of the Syndicate, with a view to arraigning them in court.
In a related development, six members of a traffic Robbery gang (one chance), that also specializes in dispossessing unwary motor cycle, (Okada) riders, were arrested at Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos, following information provided by some members of the public.
Operatives were said to have trailed the gang to Abaranje area of Ikotun-Egbe, where one of their member, identified as Toyin Adewale was arrested.
During interrogation, police confirmed that Adewale confessed belonging to the notorious gang that has been terrorising some part of the state for some time now.
According to the police, his confession led to the arrest of other members of the gang, namely: Olakunle Akerele, Nurudeen Akorede, Makinde Oluwaseyu, Tunde Yusuf and Bankole Mohammed.
However, following the search conducted in their hideout, police said it recovered one double barrel locally made gun, one single barrel gun and seven live cartridges
