• As CP urge parties to disarm members
By Emmanuel Edom
The unending crisis bedevilling the Lagos People’s Democratic Party (PDP), last weekend took a new turn, as its Apapa Local Government Party Chairman, Hon. Borishade Adeniyi, was shot dead in Eti-osa, by suspected thugs allegedly loyal to the state chairman, Mr Moshood Adegoke Salvador.
In a swift reaction, the State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Edgal Imohimi, who was quoted as been worried over the use of firearms by political patties and the frequency of violence involving the PDP in the state, directed the Area Commander in-charge of Area ‘J’ Elemoro to arrest all those involved in the crime.
While carrying out the CP order, five principal suspects were arrested and transferred to the States Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti for further investigation.
The suspects arrested are Engr Kehinde Fasasi, chapter chairman, Eti- Osa LG; Hon. Rotimi Kujore, chapter chairman Lagos Island LG; Alhaji Fatia Adele, chapter chairman Mushin LG; Mr Ishmil Abiola chapter chairman Amuwo-odofin LG and Dr Amos Alabi Fawole, chapter chairman Surulere LG.
Eyewitness accounted that Lagos PDP was on tour to Eti- osa local government area on Saturday when crisis erupted among party members and it led to the use of dangerous weapons like cutlasses and guns.
“We all went for political tour in Eti-Ose and after the introduction of the state Exco, a boy stood up to introduce the dignitaries from Eti- Osa. He was said asked to drop the microphone but he refused, which led to big crisis”, the eyewitness revealed.
According to him, ” it was during the crisis that some of the thugs that came with state chairman to the venue brought out guns and stated shooting sporadically. One of the thugs directly pointed gun to the deceased and shot him on knee.
It was however gathered that the deceased died on the way to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. His corpse was deposited at Lagos Island mortuary in General Hospital Odan.
It was also gathered that several others sustained fatal injuries but have been taken to undisclosed hospitals for treatment.
Efforts to get in touch with the state chairman on the allegation proved abortive, as he could not be reached on phone.
It would be recalled that on the 12th July 2018, two suspected PDP thugs, Wale Oye and Ganiyu Ajiboluwa were arrested at Festac extension with two pulp action rifles given to them by one Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu, a member of the people’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State House of Assembly, to escort him to a political rally, The said Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu was arrested and they are all helping the Police in the investigation of the case.
CP therefore warmed that no political party will be allowed to truncate the peace in the state. He called on all political parties in Lagos to disarm members as nobody without necessary authorisation is permitted to carry firearms.
He added, that henceforth-political Party leaders would held liable for the actions of their supporters.
