The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole on Saturday took a swipe on some governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) including David Umahi, Ebonyi, Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti and Samuel Orton of Benue States.
He spoke at Abakaliki during a rally organised by APC members in the state held at the party’s arena along Enugu/Abakaliki expressway.
Oshiomhole, who began his attack on Governor David Umahi for refusing the party members access to state’s township stadium for the rally, said the governor should apologise to the people, as he is only the manager of the stadium while the people are the shareholders. He commended the people for overcoming the obstacles to attend the rally enmasse.
He compared Umahi’s action to that of Governor Fayose whom he said challenged the federal government and the people of Ekiti in the same manner but today suffering the worst defeat of his life.
“When the people are determined, no obstacle will stop them. I hope he will apologise to his people for denying them access to the stadium. I was a governor before and I allowed PDP access to the stadium as many times as they wanted.
“It is just about being civilised. And any time, the then President was coming to my state, I rolled red carpet to receive him even when I will abuse the party the following day.
“Assuming that everybody matters is a hallmark of leadership. When you refuse to display power when everybody knows you have it, you even become more powerful. When you abuse power, you simply become so small and so powerless.
“Two weeks ago we were in Ekiti, the guy there. That was my first question paper after my election. My friend Fayose my aburo said he is a rock; if he falls on you, he crushes you. Now, within 24 hours, he was on the ground crying ‘they have killed me, they have killed me’. I asked him why do you cry?
“I have seen it all. I was going to Ekiti, PDP government stopped me as a sitting Governor. But we pushed them with our PVC out of power. He who abuses power, abuse will await him. The stadium belong to the people of Ebonyi state, the Governor is the manager of this public
facility. The manager does not drive away the shareholder; you the Ebonyi people are the shareholders.
“If the federal government refuses him to fly the federal airport, can he fly? It is not good to abuse power because if antelope want to wrestle the Elephant and Elephant shake body, who owns the forest?
“President Muhammadu Buhari’s government and APC under our leadership will not copy primitive persons. We will play politics of best international best practices and that why in Edo I launched one man, one vote. So, with the power of PVC, we will punish them come February”.
The National Chairman also tackled Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom accusing him of unable to tackle the security challenges in his state and shifting the blame to the federal government.
Oshiomhole said, “They want us to believe that everything should be explained in ethnic and religious terms. There is a Governor whose town, who is a Christian, who they have deployed and went to kill two Reverend fathers.
“This governor is unable to pay salary, unable to pay promotion allowances, unable to tackle the challenge of his people. He now decided to twist it; herdsmen! Herdsmen!! Herdsmen!!! This guy who can tackle challenges in his state said my people are being killed, my people are being killed.
“Criminals must be dealt with at as criminals and government at all levels including the federal government and state governments must fulfil their obligations to protect lives and property regardless of your ethic origin, regardless of your religion and regardless of your social status.
“Those who did not understand the meaning of progressive politics, simply realise that they cannot cope. Some of them flee through the window, some passed through the door to where they belong to.
“You have the right, the determination of the All Progressives Congress and President Muhammadu Buhari’s determination to use the broom creatively to wash away all the abuses, the misgovernance, the iniquities and all the crises that PDP afflicted our nations with over the past 16 years. You have decided to join us to revive the power of the brooms to sustain the change, to deepen the change.
Also, replying PDP’s comment which he said accused him of running APC as a labour union, Oshiomhole said: “PDP has been complaining saying ‘this chairman, you want to rule APC like labour’. Why I no go run a ruling party like labour? Am I going to run a ruling party like a ruling party like PDP?
“Am I going to adopt their style or say what I don’t mean? I speak my heart; I don’t read speeches to speak my heart. Each time I see PDP complaining about my style, I realise that I need to reinforce it. We don’t promise to continue the same, we must do something differently”.
“Somebody was circulating something recently where he said people decamping from right, left, centre and the other side. And he said it is only in Nigeria that people who looted for 16 years and when they were about being caught, some of them jumped out. I think that summarises it, on other occasions we will speak to those issues; when people said they are leaving a place because of their shares.
“So, nothing about their policy is about the people. President Muhammadu Buhari is doing the projects he is doing in southeast where we did not even get 10% of the votes. When you give him 85% of the votes, you will see America wonder”.
The party also received decampees from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the Senator representing Ebonyi South, Senator Sonni Ogbuoji; the former Minister of Power and Steel, Chief Goddy Ogbaga; the immediate past Secretary to Ebonyi state government, Prof. Bernard Odoh; the immediate past Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Rt. Augustine Nwankwegu among others.
The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, said the three years of APC government has benefited the people of the Southeast more than the sixteen years of PDP and urged the people of the region to support the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Onu, who also frowned at the refusal of Governor Umahi to give the party access to Abakaliki township stadium for the program, vowed that APC would take over the seat of power in Ebonyi state come 2019.
Chairman of the occasion and former governor of Abia state, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu said the people of the Southeast has benefited from the government of President Buhari, disclosing that the River Niger bridge was at 53 percent completion just as many other infrastructures including roads have been cited in the region by the present government, a feat he said, the sixteen years rule of PDP could not achieve for the people.
