The Imo State Police Command has arrested one of the kidnappers of the Chief Executive Officer of Twinstar Lighthouse, Izunna Obiakor, and entertainment guru in Imo State, Ugo Stevenson, popularly known as Ndaa Chineke, while others are on the run with gunshot injuries.
A reliable source said that the kidnappers, who abducted the duo and released them five days after N1.3M ransom was paid by the family of Mr. Obiakor, who also held back Mr. Obiakor’s Highlander SUV, was caught on Friday.
The kidnappers had mounted pressure on Mr. Obiakor for another N300,000 in order to collect his SUV, which they had held back.
Accepting to pay the additional money for the release of his car, Obiakor played along with the police, even as he went with his twin brother to drop the ransom at a location chosen by the kidnappers with a cover operation by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Imo State Police Command.
Obiakor’s wife delivered the earlier ransom of N1.3M, but Obiakor chose to deliver this one by himself.
The Kidnappers had sent two of their men on motorcycle to pick up the ransom, directing Obiakor on the exact location while warning him not to invite the police into the matter.
As they moved to collect the ransom from Obiakor, officers of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) who had taken cover appeared from their hideout and gave them a hot chase, knocking them down with their vehicle in the process.
They apprehended one of the Kidnappers, while the other two ran into the bush with bullet injuries.
The arrested kidnapper gave his name as Sunday Okorie, adding that they live at Amakohia Ubi, in Owerri West LGA.
