Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has assured that he would work for the realization of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi presidency and other candidates seeking political positions in the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, come 2019 general elections.
Umahi spoke while debunking the rumor that he rejected his appointment as Coordinator of Atiku/Obi campaign in the Southeast because he is supporting the reelection of President Muhammad Buhari.
The Governor who spoke through the state Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Senator Emmanuel Onwe, after an enlarged state security council meeting at government house Abakaliki, said there was no truth in the rumor flying on the social media that the Governor had during the state executive council meeting resolved to brand some bags of rice with president Buhari’s picture in support of his reelection campaign.
“I can categorically refute the allegation that the Governor either in council or any other location rejected his meritorious appointment as the Coordinator of Atiku/Obi presidential campaign in the southeast. It is also completely false the allegation that the Governor chose not to brand rice for the PDP presidential candidate and chose to brand it for the APC presidential candidate.
“There is no shred of truth in these allegations; otherwise it is a waste of time to be asking this unserious elements to desist. But we feel it is just necessary to tell the innocent citizens of Ebonyi State, Nigerians and the world in general that the rumors that are being peddled on social media remain product of unserious minds and those things should not be taken seriously.
“The Governor of Ebonyi State is deeply committed to PDP. He is committed to working for the realization of the mandate of all the contestants in the PDP, both within Ebonyi state and at the federal level”, he said.
On the intractable boundary crises between the state and its neighbors, Onwe said the state government has directed the council chairmen and the Developmental centre Coordinators to hold security meetings.
“One of the resolutions was the mandate given to the council chairmen to be holding a security meeting at the local government level every two weeks while the Coordinators of the Development Centres are to be having similar meetings every week and minutes of such meetings must be submitted to the Governor every two weeks by the council chairmen and every week by the Coordinators.
“This is a away of averting transborder crises and criminality within the state. Few days ago, five persons who are indigenous people of Ohaukwu local government by criminals operating from Benue state.
“A special tribute was paid by the chairman of council to Coordinator of Ohaozara East Development Centre who aided the arrest of some persons who are going about collecting permanent voters card from unsuspecting Ebonyi citizens in the name of empowerment program. Council directed any group or organization embarking on any programme either from federal or state must get approval from the state government”.
The state government warned people indulging in illegal collection of taxes and levies should desist or be prepared to face the full weight of the law if apprehended; recalling that government two months ago banned collection of such illegal revenue in the state.
