Houston-area Singers Uche, Laci Kaye Booth Make ‘American Idol’ Top 20

A pair of local voices is one step closer to being crowned the next “American Idol.”

Uche from Sugar Land and Laci Kaye Booth from Livingston were ushered into the top 20 during Sunday night’s three-hour show. They performed for a live audience in Hawaii then got the good news from judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.

Booth put her unique rasp on “Georgia On My Mind.” The judges deemed her special, and I think they’re right. Booth has the right package to go far on the show.

Uche continues to surprise, this time wowing everyone with a frenetic, commanding “Play That Funky Music.” He strutted across the stage in fur and leather. It was the most memorable performance of the night.

They move on this week to more solos and star duets. The top 14 perform for the first time April 14 for public votes.

Houston singers Uché and Laci Kaye Booth are prominently featured in the ‘American Idol’ Oscar commercial.
