The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that armed criminals killed no fewer than four of its officers in the past one week.
Spokesman of the Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, said three Policemen were killed along Psychiatric Road in the Rumuigbo axis of Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Wednesday.
Omoni also said another policeman was killed at Eleme in Ikwerre Local Government Area, on Monday.
The Police Public Relations Officer regretted that the policeman killed at Eleme was in plainclothes at the time he was killed. “The criminals shot and killed him after he had identified himself as a police officer.”
Omoni stated that the criminals escaped with official firearms and ammunition of the policemen through the Etcheruo Waterside.
The Police spokesman appealed to members of the public to report to the Police anyone seen with bullet wounds. He added that a manhunt has been launched to track down the gunmen.
The killing of the four Policemen this week brings to nine the number of Policemen killed by criminals in the past five weeks.
